Verifying Accuracy

At the core of the RFID system is the promise of speed and accuracy. Speed is quite easy to determine by comparing the time it takes to perform inventory related tasks, vs. the time it previously took. But the truth is, accuracy is everything, speed doesn't matter if in the end the numbers aren't accurate.

But how do you ensure that your inventory is accurate? By auditing! The software empowers you to audit your numbers and verify yourself how accurate they are. If tagged properly, your inventory accuracy should reliably be between 97-99% accurate. Some important points:

1. Do you have another system to compare the scans to?

Yes

If the answer is yes, this will give us a reference point to start to determine accuracy. You may be asking, "Why can't I just tag my items and scan them?" The reason is because you don't know if the scans are capturing everything, or if items are being missed. The reality is that your reference point may not be accurate, however they do provide an initial target.

If the answer is no, then you don't have a reference point and will need to compare against previous scans. How do I compare against my previous scans?

1. Check your Absent list before you begin and ensure that all items are cleared and moved to Archived.

2. Perform a scan using the "Scan" option "Absent" after an audit. If however, you have items leaving your inventory, you can compare this change against the Absent list.

2. Comparing RFID scans vs. On Hand

To compare RFID scans vs On Hand you can use our compare tool. The tool allows to quickly compare verified RFID counts against on hand numbers. Items appear as either Match, or as Mismatch. Matched items exist when quantities scanned, match on hand quantities from partner software. Mismatched items are any instances where these numbers don't match.

How do you know which is right?

The fact is, you don't. Well, not until you check them. This will require you to check these items. Why aren't they scanning? Are all items tagged. Are the tags pressed against metal? Do you need to scan slower to capture the items? Did something get stolen or lost?

It's the process that you must follow to ensure that you have complete confidence in how to tag, where to tag, how densely items can be stored, & how to scan (how close you need to be, how quickly you can pass by items, what scan settings work best). You will find that each time you perform this review process of Mismatches the list becomes shorter and shorter. Once the numbers consistently match you can trust the partner On Hand quantities and therefore should confidently hit that target.
